Hellbound review! If anyone doesn't like it, just move on
This nation has undoubtedly proven itself a master of the art of series creation, surprising viewers not only with its exceptional creative approach but also with its high level of technical execution. Particularly impressive is the quality of the visuals, which reach an almost cinematic level, as well as the meticulous attention to detail in the storyline. Clearly, the creators invest an incredible amount of effort to ensure every aspect of their work appears harmonious and meticulously crafted. However, this impressive production does have some nuances that cannot be ignored. Some criticism, unfortunately, relates to both the casting and the sometimes unnecessarily long wait for new seasons. These issues slightly mar the overall impression—so much so that I was forced to reduce the final score by just one point.
Regarding the shortcomings of the cast, I would like to point out the following: some characters remain insufficiently expressive and lack the individuality required to fully immerse oneself in the story. Added to this is the problem of visual similarities between individual actors, which makes it difficult at times to distinguish between the characters. The problem is compounded by the unexpected replacement of one of the key characters in the second season. This creates confusion for viewers, somewhat distracting from the main storyline and reducing the enjoyment of the ongoing events.
The length of the seasons is worth mentioning separately: although their format is perceived as relatively concise, there is a sense of overextension in another aspect—the plot sometimes drags on unnecessarily. This is especially evident in the first episodes, where a significant amount of screen time is spent thoroughly introducing the audience to the characters. Further complications arise from drawn-out scenes in which the characters take excessively long to react to emerging threats from monsters. This slow development of events often raises questions of logic. It seems strange to see characters hesitant or slow in critical situations, when prompt action, including the use of modern technology or the involvement of professional specialists, would seem more natural. This stretch—both in the characters' reactions and in the events themselves—can sometimes be irritating and slightly undermine the realism of the events.
Although the project is rated 18+ due to certain scenes and themes, I am convinced that its potential far exceeds the stated age range. This is largely due to the exceptional execution of every detail and the captivating plot twists that are capable of captivating virtually any viewer. The project rightfully deserves its status as a unique phenomenon in its genre, standing out for its carefully crafted atmosphere and ability to leave a lasting impression on the viewer. Even with the noted shortcomings, the overall rating remains consistently high—a well-deserved 9 out of 10.
Of course, as viewers watch, they may have some questions—both about the events and the characters' behavior. However, the key recommendation here is patience: most of the ambiguities are revealed and explained as the narrative unfolds. While some viewers may find the presentation too leisurely or complex, it is precisely these characteristics that shape the series' signature style and create the unique atmosphere that makes it so memorable.
