God is the only (natural) brother of the The Darkness, one of the most powerful supernatural beings in the universe; the creator of the universe, leviathans, angels, and humanity.
Biography
In the television series Supernatural, God, also known as the Light, is depicted as the first being, standing at the origins of the entire Multiverse and its many inhabitants. Alongside him in this complex story is his sister, the Darkness, who is equal to her brother not only in the antiquity of her origins but also in the scale of her power. Their relationship serves as the central conflict of the narrative.
In the era before the creation of worlds, God and the Darkness peacefully coexisted within the boundless and chaotic Space. However, their alliance was short-lived, as tensions grew between them, fueled by mutual envy and differing views on the structure of existence. The Darkness rejected her brother's creative aspirations, which ultimately led to a fierce struggle between the two ancient beings. To protect his creations and plans from his sister's destructive influence, God took extreme measures: he created archangels, who became his primary allies in the battle against her. After a bitter battle, the Darkness was defeated and then forever imprisoned with a magical seal known as the Mark. This seal, while keeping his sister securely imprisoned, represented not only a locking mechanism but also a potential key to her eventual release.
After the threat of the Darkness was eliminated, God focused on the further development of creation. His first active experiments were the Leviathans—extraordinarily powerful and cruel creatures, beyond all control. These creatures proved so dangerous that, to prevent chaos, they had to be imprisoned in Purgatory—an eternal abode for doomed and insatiable spirits.
God's next step was the creation of humanity—a species He endowed with unique significance among all His creations. Humans became the object of His special love and care. God commanded the angels to venerate humanity even above themselves. However, this decree caused a schism in their ranks: Lucifer, one of the leading archangels, categorically refused to follow this order. His disobedience escalated into rebellion. As a result of this disruption of order, Michael, another archangel, was forced to cast Lucifer out of Heaven. In response to his expulsion, Lucifer attempted to prove the imperfection of human nature: he seduced Lilith, transforming her into the first demon and beginning a line of hellish beings.
Over time, God's role as an active creator began to change. Having completed His work on the Divine Words—a sacred outline of the foundations of the universe—He withdrew from the affairs of Heaven and chose to live among His creation in the guise of Chuck Shirley, a simple prophet and a man with mortal frailties. Behind this mask, God observed the development of his creations for years, influencing the course of events only occasionally. According to the recollections of Metatron, one of his closest angels, God sometimes manifested as a strict leader and even demonstrated certain prejudices against women, yet at the same time remained fair in his actions. For some, he was a vision of a vain or irresponsible creator, not always aware of the consequences of his decisions. For Lucifer, God always remained a cunning strategist.
The plot culminates when the almighty God faces an unexpected defeat at the hands of Jack, the son of the fallen archangel Lucifer and a human. This event upends the entire established order of things: Jack takes the place of creator, fully assuming supreme authority over the universe, while God loses his powers and immortality. At the end of his journey, he remains a simple man - an ordinary mortal among those whom he himself once created with special love.
