Website

Why can't registration be removed from the site? Is it really necessary?

We have tried to make our site as convenient and easy to use as possible. Today, everyone can make their intellectual contribution to its development, be it a few words or several pages of meaningful information. To do this, you must go through the mandatory but simple registration procedure on the site - it will take no more than a minute. This measure has become necessary in order not to clutter the project pages with malicious spam, freely sent on the Internet by spam bots. Therefore, registration is not only welcomed by us, but is also a prerequisite for starting active interaction with the site.

In what language is the site content created?

Currently, the content of the wikiserial.org website is created in two languages: English and Russian. English was chosen because it is an international language, Russian is popular in the rating of national segments of the Internet and among national domains. In the future, we plan to expand to 12 of the most common languages in the world. At the same time, after registering on the site, you can choose any of 350 languages to display interface elements.

What languages are planned to be used in the future to write content on the site?

In addition to English and Russian, this list is planned to be expanded by 10 more languages (in total, 12 languages): Chinese, Hindi, Bengali, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian and Turkish.

Why is the Main Page presented entirely in English?

The fact is that the site has an international focus, since it covers the activities of world cinema. And since English is an international language, the Main Page is presented entirely in international English. Nevertheless, it is from the Main Page of the site that there is a transition to other languages, in which our cinematic encyclopedia is presented.

Why can't I rename the name of any TV series discussed on the site?

The main pages of all TV series on the site are protected from renaming, because if each user were to be able to change the names of TV series, the site would have many incorrect links to the previous names of the series - link anarchy and confusion would arise.
In addition, it should be understood that the main pages of all TV series on the site are created exclusively by the site administrator at the request of users and after assessing their popularity. At the same time, the site administrator indicates the original name of the new series in the name, so renaming it by anyone in the future makes no sense.

Why does the site have a film franchise called "Star Wars", but at the same time such series as "Andor" and "The Mandalorian", which are part of this franchise, are still presented as separate series on the Home page?

The thing is that the highest-rated series related to film franchises can be highlighted in separate positions on the Home page. At the same time, in the film franchise, this series does not duplicate its description - the franchise simply links to this series from its page.

The TV series pages indicate age restrictions for viewing them. Is this a reference to a legislative act of a specific state?

No, this is just a recommendation from the site administration.

Why can't I upload video or audio files to the site? You can only upload pictures.

The thing is that we are very scrupulous in ensuring that none of the site's users violate the copyrights of other individuals and organizations. If users start publishing their video clips of any TV series or upload soundtracks on our site, they will be violating someone else's copyright. This is unacceptable! That is why we only upload the bare minimum so as not to violate anyone's rights - photos, pictures and screenshots. It is important to understand that any images posted on the site are published by users solely for informational and cultural purposes, without appropriating someone else's authorship. In this case, according to international legal practice, site users do not have to obtain the consent of the authors of the images to publish their photo materials that are freely available on the Internet. However, we still do not allow video and audio files to be published in order to completely eliminate potential damage to the copyright holders of certain video and audio materials, thereby eliminating possible legal risks. Audio and video files may be published only with the official permission of their owners or by the owners of these files themselves.

Please explain, Wikiserial has announced itself as a knowledge base of the most rated TV series. Why then is the series "Hellbound" on the list, which has a rating of about 6 out of 10?

That's right. The thing is that the criteria by which we select TV series are somewhat more complex than just selecting by popularity. Some series like "Hellbound" or "La Brea" are interesting because of their unique idea. They may not have achieved ratings, but they are unique and interesting in their own way.

I don't like one of the series in the general list on the main page of the site. Why did you even post such an uninteresting series?

The thing is that we post series and film franchises not only based on the rating and at our own discretion. There is a share of series that are suggested to us by users of the site, after which we consider them for posting and make a final decision. If suddenly someone did not like some of the series based on their subjective feelings and impressions, this does not mean that this series is objectively uninteresting. There are those who are ready to watch it and discuss it. Therefore, we proceed from the principle "if you don't like it - don't watch it". No one forces anyone to read content that is uninteresting to him (her). There are many series on the site - choose those that you like, and leave the "uninteresting" ones for others. And in general, this issue falls under the category of taste preferences, and, as we know, there is no accounting for taste.

Why aren't some pages on the site fully populated with information? Some pages lack information.

This is because our site is a wiki project: any registered user can add and edit information. If you see a page with little information, it's still being updated. You can also help and add to it.
When a user creates a new page, it doesn't have to be completely filled out. Any user can add to, correct, or rewrite a given article.

What is the site's server time (time zone)?

By default, the site's time zone for all unregistered and new users is set to "America/New York." All registered users have the option to override the global time zone and set their own time in their personal settings. This allows them, for example, to see a different time when pages were last edited when making changes to the site.

Interface

The different language formatting of links on the site is due to how the system selects the language for individual interface blocks:

  • In the footer (the lower block with information links), the language depends on the visitor's status: for guests, it is determined automatically by their IP address, and for registered users, it is determined by the language selected in their profile settings. If the required language localization has not yet been prepared for the site, the links in the footer are displayed in English.
  • In the sidebar, the link language corresponds to the page category: for example, in sections of the English-language version of the project, links will be in English, while in the Russian-language version, they will be in Russian.
  • The hamburger menu in the mobile version supports switching between language versions.

In the future, support for 12 languages is planned: English, Russian, Chinese (traditional), Hindi, Bengali, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian and Turkish.

Why can't I see new comments, marketplace notifications, chat mentions, and more?

Some of the site's functionality (updating comments, notifications, mentions, etc.) relies on JavaScript. If JavaScript is disabled in your browser or blocked by extensions, these elements will not update or display. Please enable JavaScript in your browser.

Comments

Every page on the site has a comment section, and every page on the site has a discussion page. What's the fundamental difference between them? If there are too many comments under a page, they will clutter the page.

There are two different ways to communicate on the site, and they serve different purposes. Let's consider each ways separately.

The comment section below the page is intended for quick reactions to the content. Here you can share your opinion, point out an inaccuracy, ask a short question, or discuss the topic of the article with other readers. It works more like a familiar comment system on regular websites, so it’s perfectly fine to post comments here.

Discussion pages, on the other hand, are part of the wiki system itself. They are meant for more in-depth and structured discussions specifically about improving the page. For example, suggesting edits, debating wording, proposing additions, or coordinating changes with other contributors. These discussions are usually more formal and focused on the development of the content.

So in short, comments are for general communication and quick feedback, while discussion pages are for working on the content itself.

It is important to note that a large number of comments on a page will not clutter it, since the system carefully displays only the 5 most recent comments on each page, and in order to view older comments, you need to click the "Load more" button. After the next page refresh, you will again see only the last 5 comments.

The problem is that the comments section isn't part of the page's main content. At the same time, the page's last edit status is updated only after edits are made to the page's main content—the main article, sections, and subsections. Therefore, when a new comment appears on a page, it's not considered a page edit, and therefore, the page's last edit status remains unchanged. This explains the discrepancy between the dates of comments left on the page and the date of the page's last edit.

How does the comment system on the website work? New level-one comments appear at the top, while second, third, and subsequent level comments appear at the bottom. Why do you use this particular logic for displaying comments on the website?

Yes, that's exactly how our comment system, located at the bottom of every static page, works.

New root (parent) comments always appear at the top. This is because root comments represent separate, unrelated discussion threads. When a user opens a page, they should immediately see new threads, without scrolling through dozens or even hundreds of older comments.

Child comments are different. They are a continuation of a specific conversation and should be read in natural chronological order—from the first message to the last. When a user opens a discussion thread, they sequentially follow the conversation and understand how the discussion developed. Therefore, new replies are added to the end of the thread.

If new child comments were displayed at the top, the user would have to read the discussion in reverse order or constantly scroll through the entire thread to understand how it all started and the context in which each reply was written. This would make reading long discussions significantly less convenient.

This is why the system uses a different sorting principle: new root comments are displayed at the top, so that new topics are immediately noticeable, and child comments are displayed at the bottom, so that the natural sequence and logic of the development of each individual conversation is preserved.

Why do people write their TV show reviews on TV show discussion pages?

TV show/franchise discussion pages (e.g., Talk:Supernatural) are essential for discussing details, controversies, and researching TV shows/franchises, as well as for posting comments and detailed opinions (reviews). Generally, this type of page isn't limited to these features. It's perfectly acceptable to hold polls, vote, post comments, alternative storylines, and open any topic within the our site rules and the topic of the page being discussed.

When did the comment system appear on the site? I only see comments dated this year.

The comment system on Wikiserial appeared in March 2026. Before that, there was no option to leave comments on the site, so you won't see any earlier comments.

Unique content

Can I use third-party AI services to rewrite other people's texts if I'm too lazy to write unique content myself?

Yes, it's possible to use AI as an auxiliary tool. However, the published material must be truly unique and written in your own words. Simply rewriting someone else's article using AI is not considered original content. We recommend using AI only to assist with wording, correct errors, or improve the structure of the text, while creating the material itself based on your own knowledge, watching a TV series or movie, and analyzing information from various sources.

Which AI services can you recommend for working with text?

There are many services that help edit, improve, and structure texts. However, the site administration does not recommend using them to automatically rewrite other people's materials. The main goal of our project is to publish original articles about TV series and film franchises based on our own knowledge and understanding of the topic. Artificial intelligence can be a useful assistant, but it should not replace the author. Therefore, we do not recommend any specific services or publish links to them.
